Lucknow's Green Corridor along the Gomti: phase by phase, what is open and what is delayed

The Green Corridor is the LDA's plan for a fast road along the Gomti river, running about 28 km from IIM Road in the north-west to Kisan Path, Lucknow's outer ring road, in the south-east. It is meant to take traffic off the city's busiest roads. It is being built in four phases, and they are at very different stages. Here is the status as of October 2026.

Phase by phase

Phase 1: IIM Road to Hardinge Bridge. Open. According to the LDA, this stretch has been in use since January 2024.

Phase 2: Hardinge Bridge to Pipraghat. Under construction. The LDA lists this 9.6 km stretch as under construction. A December 2025 report described a separate package worth about ₹130 crore, including a bridge over the Kukrail, with one link targeted to open by mid-December. We could not confirm that it opened on time.

Phase 3: Pipraghat to Shaheed Path. Started in 2026, partly delayed. Work on this roughly 5 km stretch began in February 2026, including a railway overbridge at Pipraghat and the widening of Dilkusha Road. One approach road near Dilkusha Kothi was held up for months because it crossed defence land. In July 2026 the hurdle was cleared: the LDA is to take over about 0.80 hectares of defence land after paying ₹8.53 crore. The LDA hopes to finish this 700-metre section, which it calls the VIP Spur, by December.

Phase 4: Shaheed Path to Kisan Path. No recent update. The LDA lists this as a 6.3 km stretch. We found no 2026 progress report for it.

Note that different reports number the phases differently. The breakdown above follows the LDA's own project page.

Why it matters

When it is complete, the corridor will give a riverside route between the north-west of the city and the Shaheed Path and Kisan Path side, without crossing the crowded centre. For daily commuters, that can mean:

  • a faster drive from Gomti Nagar and the cantonment side towards Shaheed Path;
  • an easier route from the old city towards IIM Road and the Sitapur Road side;
  • less pressure on the existing bridges over the Gomti.

What it means if you are renting

  • Right now, only Phase 1 is fully usable. Do not choose a flat today because of a stretch that is still being built.
  • During construction, areas near Pipraghat and Dilkusha Road can expect diversions and dust.
  • When Phases 3 and 4 open, the south-eastern side of the city, around Shaheed Path, gets one more quick link to the centre. That suits families who want the newer townships but work in town.
