LDA's Varun Vihar and Naimish Nagar townships: what was launched and how to apply

In late September 2026 the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) opened two new townships, Varun Vihar and Naimish Nagar, and laid foundation stones for five apartment projects. This is the biggest housing launch in Lucknow this year. Here is what is known so far, and what it means if you are looking for a plot, a flat, or simply a place to rent.

What was launched

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched both townships at an LDA event, reported on 25 September 2026. According to the details shared there:

  • Combined size: about 10,680 acres, at an estimated cost of ₹12,000 crore.
  • Who it is for: homes for around 10 lakh people over time, through plots, group housing, affordable housing and PMAY homes.
  • Varun Vihar: more than 6,500 acres near the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, on the Mohan Road side of the city, with a planned link towards the Purvanchal Expressway.
  • Naimish Nagar: around 4,100 acres on the Sitapur Road side, around Bakshi Ka Talab.

The registration window

The LDA's own website lists registration for both Varun Vihar and Naimish Nagar from 24 September 2026 to 24 October 2026. Registration opened at 6 pm on 24 September, and an LDA press release dated 29 September reported 540 registrations within the first 24 hours.

Reports differ on how many plots are on offer in this first round. One report puts it at 3,010 plots, another at 4,520. The LDA notice is the figure to trust, so check the brochure on the official site before you apply. Allotment is by lottery.

Five apartment projects started at the same event

Foundation stones were laid for five multi-storey housing projects worth ₹2,166 crore in total:

  1. Lake View
  2. Park View
  3. Aishbagh Square
  4. Aditi Apartment, under the Anant Nagar Yojana on Mohan Road
  5. Bageshwari Apartment, in Sharda Nagar Extension

Registration for Aditi Apartment (a PMAY project) is listed separately on the LDA site, from 2 October to 2 November 2026.

How to apply safely

  • Apply only through the official LDA website. Many private sites copy scheme names and collect fees or personal details.
  • Read the brochure for plot sizes, rates, payment plan and eligibility before paying the registration amount.
  • Keep the registration receipt and watch the LDA site for the lottery date.
  • A township of this size takes years to build. Roads, water, power and drainage come before houses, so a plot bought now is a long-term decision, not a quick move.

What it means for renters

Nobody will be renting a home in Varun Vihar or Naimish Nagar soon. Families who need a home this year will still be looking in established areas with schools, markets and transport already in place. Over the longer term, both townships could bring jobs and new roads to the Mohan Road and Sitapur Road sides of the city, which is worth watching if you plan to stay in Lucknow for many years.
